Devon County Council has an excellent record for the condition and usability of their bridleways and footpaths, which is currently at 95% of paths meeting the required standards. They also have an active review process for looking at the bridleways and footpaths on a parish by parish basis and reviewing the definitive map.

Devon also currently have an Equestrian Devon Project to specificly enhance and develop equine trails, and there are some key multi-user trails in the pipeline. Devon Rights of Way team is also committed to looking at the trails which are currently only open to cyclists (and walkers) with equines being prohibited, to see if they can also be made available for access by horses.

Devon does give the feel of being a horse friendly county and the importance of this is recognised both for local and visiting riders, and to for the benefits equine activity brings to the local economy.
